Panasonic TH-42PX75U Review

The Panasonic PX75U series (which includes the Panasonic TH-50PX75U and Panasonic TH-42PX75U) is the lower end model of the Panasonic plasma TV line up. Panasonics have been a favorite of "budget conscious" consumers looking for plasmas for a long time. Panasonic over does their line of plasmas by offering different models from PX75U to PX77U to the Costco's PE77U. As a consumer, it's hard to know the differences with these models and so I wish that Panasonic would make it easier for us by just discontinue a line and starting fresh. The Panasonic TH-50PX75U and Panasonic TH-42PX75U are for the "budget conscious" since they are only have a resolution of 1366x768, compared to the P2700U model which outputs at 1080P.

The Panasonic PX75U is the no nonsense version in Panasonic's plasma lineup. The Panasonic TH-50PX75U and Panasonic TH-42PX75U do provide a punch when it comes to picture quality by providing deep blacks and good color depth. Watching fast action images are a treat to see as they are a smooth motion picture. One thing that is noteworthy is how bearable the picture is with standard definition as it is much more bearable to watch than other flat screens out there.

The major features of the The Panasonic TH-50PX75U and Panasonic TH-42PX75U are:

  • 1366 x 768 resolution
  • 10,000:1 contrast ratio
  • 29 billion displayable colors
  • 2 Hdmi inputs
  • 2 Component video inputs

The Panasonic TH-50PX75U and TH-42PX75U do have glare issues; therefore, it is highly recommended to upgrade to the PX77U series. You definitely want less glare coming off your plasma TV screen, so it might be best to go for a higher model. Panasonic does a good job in trying to bridge a gap between the LCD and plasma when it comes to the glare issue with their higher models.
