Panasonic Viera TH50PX80U

The Panasonic Viera TH50PX80U is a great product and an anticipated
addition to the Panasonic line of plasma TVs. Consumers who are
looking to get as much for their money as possible would do well to
look into this line. Also available in 42 inches (TH42PX80U) and 37
inches (TH37PX80U), buyers are sure to find something that suits not
only their tastes but their price range as well when purchasing a set
from this line.

Its displays of blacks are remarkable for a set that is not considered
a top-of-the-line model. Like other Panasonics, it has trouble with
noise-reduction and some color displays. The TH50PX80U purposefully
sheds extra accessories and furnishes in favor of a bare-bones style
in order to serve as a "budget" model.

Picture controls unfortunately leave much to be desired. There is a
menu system with five adjustable picture presets. The fifth preset is
called "Custom", and is based on each individual input. There are
three temperature color presets as well. Controls consist of noise
reduction (two types), five aspect ration controls, and an option for
controlling the intensity of blacks. A menu for image retention (more
commonly known as burn-in) is also featured. There is disappointingly
no energy saving option, but this is to be expected from a budget
model.

The TH50PX80U has three HDMI inputs. One is in the front, and two of
them are accessed from the rear of the set. In the back, there are
also a multitude of additional inputs. These include an RF input, an
optical digital audio output, a monitor AV output, and a AV output
with S-Video. The front panel also has a receiver for SD cards and a
secondary AV input.

Standard-Definition details on the TH50PX80U are very sharp, which is
very good for consumers who have not yet made the jump to Blu-Ray and other forms of high-definition media. Its video processing is not
capable of de-interlacing 1080i. As mentioned earlier, the display of
blacks in the set is very good, but other colors (namely red) suffer
greatly.
