Pioneer Kuro PDP-5080HD Review
Pioneer Kuro PDP-4280HD Review
Suggested retail $3,499
The Pioneer Kuro PDP-5080HD and Pioneer Kuro PDP-4280HD are part of Pioneer's 8th generation of plasma TV. Pioneer has always been one of the leading manufacturers in plasma displays. The new code name Kuro PDP 5080 HD will not disappoint consumers. Though not quite at the 1080P resolution, the Pioneer Kuro PDP-5080HD and Pioneer Kuro PDP-4280HD produce an image with a high definition resolution of 1365x 768. You would to have crossed over too many more expensive PDP-5010FD models to get the 1080P resolution.
The picture quality is 3D-like with good texture of black settings. The motion is smooth, so watching action pictures will be very fluid. This model has a nice black bezel with an option to remove the detachable speaker.
Some of the major features of the Pioneer PDP-5080HD and Pioneer PDP-4280HD are:
- WXGA 1365x768 resolution
- Smooth film motion mode
- 4 HDMI 1.3 inputs
- Detachable bottom speaker
Since this is Pioneer's entry level plasma TV (which is still no slouch) it only has a 720P resolution. The 42-inch model, the Pioneer PDP-4280HD, would be great with 720P resolution. If you are going with a bigger 50-inch model or higher, it would be nice to have the current 1080P resolution of the 5010FD or 6010FD. I'm sure a Pioneer 60-inch version, maybe PDP-6080HD will be showing up soon enough. Basically, this 80HD series creates a nice processing of noise and motion. The only thing that might disappoint the users is the blacks are not as distinguished as the higher end 6010FD models. Other alternative may be the 1080P Samsung plasmas, but Pioneer is still a great name in plasmas and the 80HD does its job just fine.
