Dell 42" W4201C Review
The W2011C is Dell's version of 42 inch high definition plasma TV. Dell has been making great strides to produce a competitive product in the market of the basic 42” plasma television. The display, in high definition mode, produces an image quality of 1024 x 768. This Dell plasma television comes with a high definition tuner and picture in picture features. The Dell W4201C also comes with two HDMI connections which is great considering that some 42” plasma TV's from other competitors only come with one HDMI.
The look and style of the actual W4201C TV is quite nice. It has a silver casing surrounded by a black border around the screen, with detachable speakers. It's nice have the speakers separated to give a different sound ambience for optimized listening.
The biggest concern it that it would be nice for the consumer to look at the picture before buying the unit or at least be able to compare it to other plasma TVs. Dell offers these TVs online, but only has it viewable in retail outlets in some parts of the country. The picture is very decent in the high definition mode. The standard definition is not as attractive; therefore a high definition feed is always recommended. The black level details could be improved. For instance you may notice a black area that should have different shadings of details of black/silver. Instead it is clumped and banded into one color.
Recommendation
The Dell W4201C provides a good entry point level of pricing and features. Sometimes Dell offers these TV's at sizeable discounts. If you want a decent picture television, this 42 inch model is your choice.
If you have extra money in your budget, and if you want a great image quality, then the Dell W2011C is not for you. The detail is not as crisp as other televisions reviewed on this site. The only wish I had for Dell, is for the consumer to actually compare it in stores with other models. Observing always persuades the consumer's choice.
