Dell 50" W5001C Review
The W5001C is Dell's 50 inch high definition plasma TV. The line resolution of the plasma is 1366 x 768. In high definition mode, the Dell 50” W5001C produces a quite adequate picture. This Dell comes with a high definition tuner and picture in picture features. One of the most important connections of this plasma TV, is that it has two HDMI connection.
The styling of the W5001C is very attractive. The monitor is separated by two speakers, which can be attached to the TV. An excellent idea is to have the sound positioned to the type of room the consumer has. The two speakers are 20 watts a piece.
In regards to the picture…..seeing is believing! Unfortunately, in some areas of the country, you can not sample the picture before buying it. It is almost a blind purchase. The picture of the Dell 50” W5001C is very decent in the high definition mode, but the standard definition is not as attractive; therefore a high definition feed is recommended. The big question…how does it compare to brands like the Panasonic and Pioneer? The Dell W5001C is not as sharp in detail as those other brands mentioned. The problem is that the blacks show banding, instead of different shades of black. You could try fiddling with the settings menu, but the crispness will still not be there. Another sour point is the remote control of the Dell 50” W5001C. The controls were not easy to navigate, and had problems working in certain angles.
Recommendation
If you are a budget conscious consumer, who is looking for a very decent high definition 50 inch plasma, then the Dell 50” W5001C is your choice. Dell is known to be very competitive in pricing. Once in a while, the Dell web site gives a spectacular deal in plasma TVs. With the attractiveness of the price, people jump in knowing that if they have a problem, they can call Dell. Service is another story.
If you are concerned with image quality, crispness of picture, then you should be looking at other alternative plasmas like the Pioneer PDP-5060 HD or the Panasonic TH-50PX50U. There is no in use buying this TV, if you are unsure of the image quality of the unit. You may kick yourself later for not spending the extra money and getting yourself a more superior quality plasma.
