Hitachi 55HDS69 Review
Trying to find a happy medium between a 50-inch screen and the expensive 58-60 inch screens, Hitachi has answered with their 55-inch plasma screen TV, the 55HDS69. So why would Hitachi produce a 55-inch screen? Hitachi has figured out that a nice price point and size will attend to the masses of large plasma TV arena.
The Hitachi Ultravision 55HDS69 produces outstanding picture quality. When watching any sports and movies, you can see all the natural colors. The images on the Hitachi 55HDS69 are very smooth in motion and very lifelike. I personally love the idea that this plasma produces a natural color antireflective screen. Most plasma TVs produce a glare on the screen, but the Hitachi 55HDS69 does reduce the glare, but not completely like LCD TVs.
The major specifications of the Hitachi 55HD69 are:
- 1366x768 resolution
- Natural color antireflective screen
- 3 HDMI inputs and 3 Component inputs
- 36 Watt, 3 way speaker system
- Digital cable card ready
The speakers on the Hitachi 55HD69 are not hidden, like other flat screens (such as the Samsung HP-S5053), but placed nicely on the sides of the TV. The speakers are attached to the side and are colored in silver. There are two higher 55-inch models, which look different (color) and have more features. The two higher models are:
- Hitachi 55HDT79 comes with more dark silver outside casing. This has the features of the 55HDS69 with the TV guide programming, adjustable color decoder, USB photo input and two IR outputs.
- Hitachi 55HDX99 is the top model in the Director's series. The casing is in the most attractive black shell. It has the same features as the 55HDT79, but it also adds fire wire, custom color temperature, simple remote and film image quality setup.
If you don't need the extra features in the 2 higher models - the 55HDT79 and the 55HDX99, then the Hitachi 55DS69 will be a more reasonable choice. I would highly recommend this TV for it's size that can reach the masses and the natural and life like picture quality of the images. Hitachi is being aggressive in pricing, so it may fall better within a budget. The Hitachi 55DS69 is definitely worthy of a consideration.
