Panasonic TH-50PX50U Review

As with the 42 inch model (42PX50U), the 50 inch model is a great plasma TV. Though 42 inch plasmas are in the sweet spot for size and pricing, you can really “wow” your guests, when showing off your Panasonic TH-50X50U.   Hanging this from a wall unit is quite an exceptional statement.

Like the Pioneer plasma TVs, the Panasonic TH-50PX50U produces exceptional pictures.   I believe it will be a consumer's pick'em choice for either number 1 or number 2.   If you were to fiddle around with cables, you would have a little harder time with hooking inputs/outputs with the back of TV set compared to the separate receiver unit that Pioneer sells.

This Panasonic plasma TV produces a resolution of 1366 x 768  and comes with only one HDMI connection.   The speakers are located on the bottom of the screen.  The screen is surrounded by a black border which syncs in well with the picture.

The Panasonic plasmas have a cable card slot, so you can view the HD broadcast without a bulky set top box.  The problem with this option is that not every cable service provider produces this special card; therefore you are forced to buy the box even though you may have no use for it.

Recommendation

The Panasonic TH-50PX50U is highly recommended for its sharp detail and the vibrant colors of the picture.  The price is more reasonable range compared with the equivalent Pioneer plasma TV.  The speaker sound is decent, but to get that full theatre experience, you will have dish out for a full home theatre stereo system.  From a consumer's point of view, you are buying a plasma TV for its picture quality; therefore you cannot go wrong by choosing the Panasonic TH-50PX50U.  If you think 50 inch is the standard size of the future, you may consider buying one now instead of replacing the 42 inch in the future.
