Samsung HPR5052 Review

Samsung 50 inch model produces a resolution of 1366 x 768.   As with the 42-inch Samsung HPR4252, this plasma TV has a cable card slot, so you can view the HD broadcast without a bulky set top box.  The problem with this option is that not every cable service provider produces this special card; therefore you have to buy the box anyways.

The picture is surrounded by a black border with 4 speakers located at the bottom on the screen. Though the picture quality of the Samsung HPR5052 is quite decent, it does pales in comparison to that of Panasonic and Pioneer's plasma TVs.  The Samsung HPR5052 features picture in picture and has one HDMI connection.

Recommendation

The Samsung HPR5052, in comparison with the Pioneer or Panasonic, does not produce that crisp black levels that enthusiast want.   The picture is quite decent, but if you are a stickler for quality of the image, you may want to pass on this model.  The price is very competitive compared to other models, like the Pioneer PDP-5060 HD and the Panasonic TH-50PX50U, with the same features.

It will be up to consumer to see if the picture quality lives up to their standards.  If you have more money in your budget, this consumer would jump at the Pioneer or Panasonic or Hitachi plasma TVs.   If you want a decent picture for the size and money, Samsung is your choice.
